The Grey Eyes

During the development of  Data Eduction, Lineation, and Predictive HEX Informatics (DELPHI), members of House Eridanus approached House Triangulum in hopes of improving their work with the technological prowess of their noble cousins. During the course of talks, Triangulum scientists noted the difficulty of getting data quickly and securely to DELPHI mainframes and offered up a proposition: The Grey Eyes.

Description

The Grey Eyes are cybernetic implants designed specifically for interface with DELPHI. As Quants, Quantesses, or other selected Eridanii nobles travel across planets, the implants gather data to be sent back to the nearest DELPHI mainframe. The connection is impervious to hacking attempts from TL4 worlds, however still susceptible to infiltration by those with access to TL5 technology. Data collected is then stored and analyzed by the DELPHI system and its VI interface, and specific instructions and input can be transmitted from a Grey Eye user to the DELPHI mainframe as well. Additionally, the connection is two-way, allowing the VI interface of a DELPHI mainframe to communicate with a Grey Eye User in nearly real-time and giving remote access to data and results by request.

The Grey Eye is surgically implanted, meaning there is very little external to indicate its presence other than a small, grey, metal dot on the outside of the skull that is often hidden in the user’s hair. The system is capable of collecting ocular, tactile, and aural data, but has no reason to directly collect smell or taste data. Because of the surgery required, Grey Eyes cannot be easily swapped in or out, and once implanted will often remain implanted until death or an emergency requires their removal. Some Quanta may not utilize Grey Eyes due to personal opinions on implants and modifying the human body, but others see it as an important and useful tool in increasing their efficiency and effectiveness.

From a contractual standpoint, Triangulum scientists maintain administrative rights for the Grey Eyes so that they may more easily apply updates and upgrades, as well as collecting performance data and medical data to make sure implants are operating properly. A number of inter-house marriages and training programs between Triangulum and Eridanus have also occurred and continue to occur so that Eridanii engineers better understand the implants and their own DELPHI systems, and so that Triangulum scientists can engineers can work as part of the DELPHI teams within Eridanus. Lastly, large sums of credits have been paid to Triangulum for their work in creating blueprints, designing prototypes, and continued maintenance and upgrade programs where necessary.
