Mudders of the Earth is a Repentant sect founded by Roger Spittoon around 3190. It operates primarily in and around the industrial city of Gadalfo, Cabina.

Theology and Practice[]

Mudders believe that everything is mud. Individuals, planets, the cosmos -- it's mud all the way down. However, people have separated themselves from the great mud of the cosmos. Thus, the way to atonement is to throw oneself into mud grinders and combine one's immortal soul with that of the planets and thus with God.

Most Mudders believe that the final act of throwing oneself into a mud grinder should be based on voluntary self-mudification. People need to be spiritually ready for the great return to the earth, they argue, or they will simply rise again as mud-people. In life, such preparatory acts often involve working in industries closely related to mud, covering oneself in mud, or other activities that make the individual comfortable and familiar with the earth. Due to the fact that most individuals in civilized society do not care to have dealings with dirty and mud-covered people, many committed Mudders eventually gravitate toward living in anarcho-primitivist communes.

Other Mudders argue that very act of grinding and reuniting one's soul with the Mud of the Divine may itself lead to the enlightenment of a soul. This may especially be the case if an individual has proved too susceptible to the temptations and trappings of wealth in this life, and thus resisted even the slightest desire to approach or reunite with mud. Perhaps in this case, they argue, a preemptive reuniting with the great Mud of the Cosmos will reawaken that soul and remind it of its true destiny. Children, after all, enjoy playing in mud; this is a clear indication that the natural bent of the soul is to reunite with the cosmic mud of God, before that soul has been tempted out of that inclination by wealth or status or stubborn individuality. Combined with the fact that Mudders of the Earth has a strong anti-elitist and anarcho-primitiivist streak, on more than one occasion, an oppressive factory overseer or two might have found themselves teeth to teeth with a mud grinder due to the actions of a Mudder.

CHR Sect Approval[]

Roger and his first converts diligently submitted the appropriate (if mudstained) paperwork to the CHR Department of Theology to have themselves recognized as an approved sect of the Church of Humanity, Repentant. Whether due to sympathetic (or amused) individuals on the inside, inability to find any reason to deny their application based on the Three Tenets, or bureaucratic oversight, the sect was recognized by the CHR as "sufficiently Repentant" with "government practices up to CHR standards" and accepted under its umbrella.
