Pythagoras fig

Most decisions made by House Triangulum Nobles center around individual Families and their labs. The House's Pythagoras steps in when circumstances demand a more unified stance on a particular issue or the nominal appearance of higher authority. The ◬ symbol may replace the Triangulum Δ in Pythagoras members' names where outsiders require some marker of administrative intent. Triangulum’s recent acquisition of the bankrupt 14 Red Dogs Charity and the corresponding emergence of the Shoji class on Lovelace have disrupted Pythagoras members’ influence on House policy.

The Pythagoras[]

For most of the House's history, membership of Pythagoras has been voluntary for Triangulum Nobles, and does not indicate rank or merit in the House by itself. Sincere service, however, is often positively noted. The intense focus on producing interesting research most Triangulum maintain leads relatively few to volunteer their time to Pythagoras. Those that do mostly serve as members of subcommittees with concentrations on a narrow topic: distribution of grants, diplomatic missions on particular worlds, coordination of distributed infrastructure, etc. Subcommittees are largely understaffed. Anyone can volunteer, and technocratic tradition discourages unsuitable candidates from joining the membership under threat of negative social repercussions. While Triangulum culturally eschews hierarchy, some of the most external facing subcommittees on military and diplomatic topics tend to develop top-down leadership structures.

The Hawon[]

On occasion, subcommittee disputes require a final appellate decision. A single superior committee, the Hawon, retains ultimate authority over the existence, structure, and membership of subcommittees. It also on occasions of particular importance promulgates announcements on behalf of the whole House. Normally the Hawon also consists exclusively of volunteers- a combination of firebrand upstarts and renowned experts. In times of emergency or great strain for the House, arcane rules governing the selection of its members may be called into force by the Families. These were activated during the War Against the Artificials and show no signs of being reversed, to the chargrin of Triangulum traditionalists.

Somewhat confusingly, House members technically entitled to the Pythagoras title and corresponding ◬ symbol include both Chairs of subcommittees and Members of the Hawon, even though Chairs do not necessarily hold Hawon seats.
